In two weeks, we will be married. For any who are interested, here's how we met:
Dan and Kendra started their relationship in cyberspace. Both members of eHarmony, the computer program decided the two might be a good match. So, Kendra wrote Dan.
For those of you who haven't tried eHarmony, there is a process potential couples go through (usually) before they meet in the real world. This is "scientific", based on "29 dimensions" of what some guy think makes a good match. First, one person selects some questions (5?) for the other person. The other person answers the questions, and sends their own. Then the second person sends some "must haves" and "can't stands", which is then reciprocated. At this point, open communication begins, which is like chatting online, but with a delay of a day or several. Yes, this is dating in nerd-dom. Luckily, Kendra ventured in to meet Dan there!
When Kendra and Dan began open communication, the questions pretty much continued. We were still trying to find out about each other. Kendra talked about her life growing up, her love of photography, camping, amusement parks, and movies. Dan thought those things were pretty cool, too, and answered Kendra's questions about pets and camping. Then a neighbor's car rammed Dan's house, and Dan lost power.
Yes, that actually happened. It was quite an ordeal.
After things quieted down at Dan's house, conversations continued. More important subjects started to be discussed and they started to get very long. Then it was time to take the next step. Move from eHarmony's open communication phase into our personal email addresses. OK, in retrospect, it's not that big a move. But, when you think about it, it was the first time we invited each other into our personal space, to write to an email address that we probably were going to keep.
Well, communication continued, though Kendra said she was worried she might not hear from Dan again after forgetting that he had gone on a family trip to Cancun in November. Finally, the guy from Florin and the girl from Cameron Park decided to meet at the preposterous midpoint of Natomas. (Later it was decided a better midpoint might have been around the Folsom Auto Mall). The date began with an Italian dinner at Strings, and continued for hours. They walked all over the shopping center and talked for while at Jack's outside tables. Though at the time Kendra would not admit to being cold that night, she later admitted to feeling it in her flip-flopped toes. Instead of ending the date, the two decided to see a movie. The film chosen was "Enchanted", a picture that Kendra still loves, and one that made Dan a little more endearing for being willing to see. In all truthfullness, Dan has seen many movies that are much worse. All in all, it was a great time.
It was all worth it.
